Jul 16, 2023

Listing of the Day

Location: San Francisco, California

Price: $15 million

A home designed by architect Sandy Walker and built in 2013 in San Francisco’s Russian Hill neighborhood offers multi-level living, from its five-car basement garage to its rooftop garden with gorgeous city and San Francisco Bay views.

Those who enter into the grand foyer on the main level are greeted by a three-story floating helix staircase constructed from Scagliola stone with a Chilo Venini glass chandelier overhead. This floor also has an office/bedroom with an en-suite bath, a media room with a bar area and a powder room.

Up one flight, the gourmet kitchen has a Calcutta marble island, backsplash and countertops, Italian walnut cabinetry, Miele appliances and a Bluestar range. The adjacent family room has a sliding wall that opens to the private backyard with a seating area, a barbecue and a pizza oven. The garden is paved with quartz stone flooring and displays an open fireplace wall.

“This home is special given the incredible luxury amenities offered on the inside along with the amazing outdoor living opportunities afforded, which are unusual in the city,” said listing agent Nina Hatvany.

On the fourth level, the primary suite at the front of the home features a gas fireplace and seating area in front of a balcony with northwest views. “I personally love the primary bathroom,” Hatvany said. “It’s beautifully outfitted with Bahia and azure granite and quartzite slabs, a floating crystal shower, a freestanding Italian bathtub, gorgeous eglomise cabinet faces on the double vanities, and TVs hidden behind vanity mirrors.”

A third bedroom with a walk-out balcony connects directly to the dressing room; it could be used as an en-suite study for the primary suite. Adjacent is a fourth bedroom that also has its own balcony as well as a built-in desk and a bathroom outfitted Carrera Marble with a floating vanity and a glass-enclosed shower.

The fifth level houses a large family room with a bar area and a dramatic curved fireplace wall clad in custom walnut paneling. The entertainment room opens through glass doors to a large granite terrace displaying sweeping views of the city, the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay. A fifth bedroom on this floor has a walk-in closet, a bathroom outfitted with Carrera marble and a balcony overlooking the garden below. Finally, a granite staircase leads to a roof deck oasis with double-thick glass railings displaying views across the city, the waters of the Bay, and the Golden Gate Bridge spire.

“All the bedrooms on the upper levels have decks or balconies attached for a seamless indoor/outdoor experience,” Hatvany said. “The level of finish in the home’s design and décor is truly unmatched.”

Stats

This 10,824-square-foot house has five bedrooms, five full bathrooms and three half bathrooms.

Amenities

On a lower level, there is a full guest apartment with a separate entrance, an en-suite bathroom and a kitchenette. Down the hallway is a temperature-controlled, glass-enclosed wine room with seating, as well as an AV/storage room, a spacious laundry/utility room with double washer and dryers, a dog washing basin, and a catering refrigerator, and a powder room with an attached secure safe room.

At the garage/street level, past an entry gate and water feature, is a five-car garage with a mechanical lift, and a large storage/utility room.

The floating helix staircase includes a hand-hammered bronze handrail by Brian Martin and a Venini chandelier designed by Diego Chilo overhead. “It was reportedly designed to evoke the misty gray of the San Francisco fog,” Hatvany said.

The home also features lime plaster “floating” walls by Olivier Garnier Decorative Finishes, French white oak floors by Maison Nicholas, exterior doors and windows custom designed and fabricated by Cor-Italia, museum-quality lighting and glasswork and hand-forged ironwork and hardware.
