BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – Preseason All-SWAC kicker Joshua Griffin hosted his first annual “Kickin Car Wash Fundraiser” at the SU Wesley Foundation building and raised money for school supplies to be donated to Idea Innovations Public Schools.

The fundraiser comes a day after Southern’s fall scrimmage and Fan Fest on the Bluff. Griffin wanted to use his platform as an athlete for a good cause.

“As a student-athlete here at Southern, I want to do more in the community. I want to make sure I make an impact while I’m here,” Griffin said.

Another goal of Griffin’s was to involve others for a bigger reach. Other Jaguar football players and Southern student small businesses sold treats and washed cars with the hopes of creating a lasting impact.

“I don’t want to just come here, just play here for four years and leave,” Griffin said. “I want to start something up to where an event like this can happen later on, even after I graduate and be a continuous thing.”

The Mississippi native worked at a car wash growing up. He saw it as a perfect way to change the lives of kids in the Baton Rouge community.

“At one point, we were those kids who didn’t have school supplies. We went through it too and if no one was there for them, then we might as well be there for kids now,” Griffin said.

Additional donations can be made via Cash App, by sending it to $CantStopJG and putting “donation” in the description.
